LIVINGROOM/CHRISTMAS-CAM

geschrieben.
Thanx Robert.

„When the company I work for installed ISDN into my home to do some multimedia, work-at-home trials, I began thinking about other things to do with the connectivity. I was interested in the „personal publishing“ on the Web. While most people were publishing their pictures and stories, I wondered about publishing one’s space. So, in December of 1995, I brought up the first ChristmasCam.

I chose our living room because it was a not too personal room. The camara is situated so one can walk from the bedrooms to the kitchen without being seen by the camara. So it’s not intrusive.

Having a camara in a corner of the living room is a great converation piece when we have a party. Once everyone has looked at the Web page, learned that the images are taken once a minute, and been assured there is no audio capture, the party goes on.

The camara image gets between 20 and 50 hits an hour.

I get three or four pieces of mail a day from people all over the world. The greatest majority from around the European continent. Most say „neat idea“. The next most ask „why“. The next most ask „where are the people“. I used to get some telling me it was black whenever they looked so I started leaving a light on at night.

I created the movies as an experiment to actually capture people in the living room. I wrote a few capture programs for time lapse and time compressed movies. A few of the movies are on the page. It was my eight year old son’s idea to leave the movie capture programming running Christmas Eve night to catch Santa Claus. The successful result is on the ChristmasCam page.“ Robert Adams
